UFCW Local 3000 presents itself as a growing powerhouse, boasting a 75% win rate in recent elections. However, a deeper look reveals a troubling prioritization of recruitment over the actual needs of its members. In 2022 UFCW Local 21 merged with UFCW Local 1439 and since that 2022 merger, the UFCW 3000 has been hit with 16 Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges, most stemming from failures in the Duty of Fair Representation. This lack of accountability follows a long-standing UFCW pattern: a combined 106 legal charges from its predecessor locals and a historical resistance to transparency, including high-profile legal battles to keep union constitutions and bylaws hidden from the public. When leadership keeps the rules in the dark, they retain the “sole authority” to interpret them—often at the expense of the dues-paying members they are legally obligated to protect. A wise saying reminds us to “choose our friends wisely.”
The table at the right provides some indication of the “company you keep” with the UFCW. Another indication is how many Unfair Labor Practice charges have been filed against them. Over the last 4 years, the UFCW 3000 has had 16 Unfair Labor Practice charges filed against them from dues paying members.
Since 2023, the UFCW 3000 has taken 965 workers out on strike 4 times.
