Can the facility be partially union and partially non-union?
The bargaining unit is made up of positions or job functions. If a position is part of the bargaining unit, then all of the employees in that position are included in the unit.
Are Employees At Other Medline Locations Represented By Unions?
At our locations throughout the Company, none of our employees have ever decided – after looking at the facts – that they want a union to represent them. No Medline site in the US is unionized.
Why do statistics show union members make 15%-20% than non-union workers?

Most reliable statistics do not show that private sector union workers earn such a premium over non-union workers.   There are many ways data may be pulled and summarized about wages earned by U.S. employees across wide ranging industries, both union and non-union. Most data that shows a large spread between union wages and non-union wages is driven by unionized public sector government jobs which tend to pay much more on average than non-union government jobs. Because only 5.9% of private sector workers choose to be unionized, most data showing large pay gaps is heavily weighted to government jobs.  Further, employee compensation is influenced by industry and location. Medline is proud that its employees receive competitive wages and benefits and that Lacey, WA employees are highly compensated relative to the market. Medline wages and benefits are looked at regularly in comparison to the market, and the Company is always looking at additional ways to reinvest in our employees. It is also important to note that bringing in a union does not always lead to higher wages. In collective bargaining wages may go up, go down, or stay the same. Or there may be negotiated terms where one benefit goes up but another goes down. Regardless of whether wages and benefits improve, in the end, the employees are still required to pay union dues. Medline’s total rewards approach consistently reviews base wages to maintain competitiveness but also ensures employees receive other compensation and benefits that are competitive in the marketplace to make us an employer of choice.
